What concerns me most about Haiti is the fact that relief groups cannot actually get into the country to help. The airports were destroyed. FedEx can't get a plane in to deliver medical supplies until the weekend. The police presence is non-existent. It scares me that they actually cannot get the help they need.
What also concerns me is that my students know nothing about this tragedy. They don't know what happened. They cannot comprehend the devastation...they don't know what an earthquake is. They don't understand the talk of humanitarian aid and collapsed buildings. They have no pictures in their head...no visuals or background knowledge for them to actually be devastated. Or sad. Or hurt. Or compelled to help. NOTHING.
OH it saddens me sometimes.
