Good in theory?

Good in theory. Sometimes.

I was all excited about the common core standards until the NY Times told me this:
"Seventh graders would study, among other math concepts, proportional relationships, operations with rational numbers and solutions for linear equations."

THIS IS UNREASONABLE FOR MY SEVENTH GRADERS. THIS IS WHAT I TEACH TO MY ADVANCED STUDENTS AND WHAT CHILDREN LEARN IN ALGEBRA.

I took advanced algebra like this in 7th grade, but the KEYWORD was ADVANCED.

Seriously? Solve linear equations in 7th grade? Dear super colleague in 8th grade: have fun reteaching!
