Take me to the candy shop....

Today was a ridiculous day at school. The "Instructional Leadership Team" is hard at work, writing magnificent and incredible unit plans. They will be used as exemplars, hopefully, because they are wicked good.

But of course, you can get a little slap happy. Mrs. C and I, who are working on our kick-ass unit, said these wonderful pieces of wisdom today.
"I don't know the answer. I don't have the answer key."
"It's not subjective. Whoever is teaching it is right."

We also pondered this question: how does one actually teach inferring and making inferences?

Mrs. C's idea: "We could play the lyrics - take me to the candy shop and let me lick your lollipop - and ask them what it means." Brilliant! I think sixth graders will TOTALLY get it!

Our other idea: "Guys, what do you think the lyric - I want to take a ride on your disco stick - means? Can you draw a picture of it?"

I'm SURE we'd engage the kiddos if we did that.
